Trip to Bloomington

Jared has a project to do for school called Famous Hoosiers. Jared choose Hoagy Carmichael as his famous hoosier. For his project he has to write a paper, do a power point presentation, and 2 other projects that we could choose from a list. We thought we'd give Jared some hands on experience and take him to Indiana University where Hoagy went to Law School, they have a sculpture of him outside the Auditorium and he is buried with his family at Rosehill Cemetery in Bloomington. Jared did some rubbings of the various plaques and of the markers at the cemetery. He thought going to the University was cool but got a little creeped out at the cemetery. I personally enjoyed the trip and enjoyed spending the time together, so we got a 2 for 1 out of it! The one downside, it was freezing walking around campus!
If you ask Jared what his favorite part of the trip was, he would say - chasing the squirrels.

Jared's Basketball 2-27-10

Here's a picture of Jared intercepting a pass at his basketball game.
Jared's team played the Tigers this morning and we were actually able to pull off a win! Yahoo! This was our last regular season game. Next week starts our play-offs. With some luck we might make it past the first one!

Jared at a motorcross event - 2-20-10

Here are some of Jared's pictures from a motorcross event he went to with his buddy Kyle. He had a blast!

Jared Basketball 2-20-10 Part Deux.

Jared played a double header today. This afternoon we played the Boilers and our team, again was a little upset, we lost 18-11. We'll win next week right!?

Jared Basketball 2-20-10

Jared played the Gators this morning and we lost to them 14-10. The boys were a little disappointed but all is good. Jared did a good job working on his skills and that's what it's all about right?

Family Fun night? 2-19-10

The school had a Family fun night and Jeff had to work so I decided it might be fun for the kids and me anyway so we decided to go. About 10 minutes before we were to leave Jared decided he would rather go be with friends, so O.K. I'll miss him but Syd and I can still go and have a Girls night, right!?? Alas, it was not to be. As soon as we got there I apparently became invisible. Sydney went off with her friends and I became part of background. Maybe someday we'll get to have a family fun night and my invisibilty will wear off (lol)!

Sledding at Ft.Ben - Feb 17

Took the kids to 'The Hill' at Ft. Ben to go sledding. There was still a lot of snow on the ground, a lot of it was really icy, so the sleds and tubes got going really fast. There was also a little snow ramp that someone had built that Jared was loving going over on his sled.
Then he decided to go over it in the tube and he got catapulted into the air and then he dropped straight down on his back and head when he went over it.

After having a mom moment and checking him all over, he just had all the air knocked out of him and his head hurt pretty bad, no blood, no dizziness, so he got up, gave me the tube and said "I want to try again with the sled". Go Jared!
Syd was a little apprehensive about going over the ramp at full speed so she went half the way up the hill and dragged her feet all the way to the ramp and then went over the side of it. At least she tried.

The kids loved tubing down the hill, it was super fast even with the ice blowing up in your face! Anyway, it was a lot of fun and a good break from the regular routine!

Jared's Basketball Game - Feb. 13

Jared played against the Tar Heels today and the team did really well. The first half was really slow with a score of 6 - 4 and then the boys came alive the second half to win the game 24 - 4. Go DAWGS!

Jared's Valentine's Day Party

Jared had his valentine's day party today and his was pretty much a replica of Syd's party. They decorated a bag, handed out their valentine's, had a drink and a cookie and a cupcake, and got to look through their valentine's. They all seemed to enjoy it. Funny how sometimes simple things are a ton of fun.

Frog?! - When you have fog that freezes? - February 12

At least I think that's what they called it this morning. Whatever it was it made the trees look really pretty. They had about an inch of 'snow'? on the branches and it was really foggy with about 0.1 miles of visibilty. No problems getting around though which was a blessing.

Sydney's Valentine's Day Party - February 10

Sydney had her valentine's day party at school today and she got to decorate a bag to put valentine's in, give out valentine's and have cupcakes and a drink. She had fun and got a lot of candy!

Early Release Day at school - February 10.

The kids got to leave school a whole 40 minutes early today! We went outside and played in the snow some more with our extra time together. The best part about being outside today though was watching the sun set. The colors were just awesome!
We also went on an icicle hunt and found some pretty huge ones hanging around.
And of course the kids tried sledding down a mound of snow.

Snow Day, no school - Feb. 9th

Today the kids got the day off from school and they were very happy about it too! We spent time relaxing around the house catching up on stuff, playing games and some time out in the snow.
What is an out of season football player gonna do with a snowman after it's made? Knock it on it's rear is what. Trying to keep his tackling skills going!
Then the he moved on to knocking his sister over, she was not so forgiving and fought back.
Then they moved on to sledding down the snow mountain in our cul-de-sac.
After awhile it started to get cold and the wind started to pick up, so inside we went.

Superbowl Sunday!

I don't know a lot about football (Jeff has laughed at my "knowledge" many times and he is absolutely right to do it. Know matter how many times I watch a game on TV or watch Jared play and try to absorb what's going on it doesn't sink in...sigh) but I know we were going to cheer our team on anyway.
We started our day by making Blue horseshoe pancakes, then we filled blue and white balloons with blue confetti and drew our favorite players numbers and horseshoes on them. We made them to pop them when our team made 'touchdowns' or is it 'goals' or is it both, ugh!!! Anyway.....
Then we went sled on our favorite sledding hill - The Firehouse. Why the favorite - It has a fireman there that this family loves very much :-). The kids had a blast going down the hill, they made a little bump in the hill so that they could get some air on the way down.
After a couple of hours sledding, we went inside and dried off and played ping-pong and then we were invited to help eat some wings that the firefighters had made. The kids loved them!
It was time for the firefighters to throw us out so they could have their space for the game, so we came home. We made our own wings and nachos and settled in to watch the game. To cut a long story short, we still have a lot of our balloons left as the kids weren't interested in popping them after we lost. There is always next year. Maybe I'll understand football more next year. There's always hope!

No basketball = fun in the snow!

So they called off the basketball game this morning because of the snow, so what are we to do?
Play in the culprit ofcourse.
The people that plowed the streets, plowed the snow into the middle of the cul-de-sac this time and it made a pretty awesome little sledding 'mound'?!? Our wonderful neighbor had a truck that was full of snow so he backed his truck up to the 'mound' and he and Jeff emptied the snow onto the mound and made it even more fun for the kids.
Of course you cannot have snow and not make a snowman. Jared took on the bottom two parts and Sydney rolled his head.
And Voila! One J and Syd original snowman.
We spent the rest of the day trying to get warm again, but it was all worth it.

Pretty snow!

A couple of pictures of the trees around the house. They looked soooo pretty all covered in snow!
