March 31st, 2011 - Beach time before the rain - Spring Breack 2011

We decided to take another walk on the beach seeing as it wasn't raining yet.

The waves were coming in pretty hard probably due to the incoming storm - ho-hum.

Jared and Syd spent some of the time jumping off the sand shelf that was there.

For this walk we went past the pier.

We saw some guys trying to surf next to the pier! Didn't seem smart for a couple of reasons - they were right next to the pier and it was freezing! We met a gentlemen who was collecting some shells, like we were and he gave us a few shells that were awesome and actually knew the name of the types of shells! 

We watched the Sandpipers and Seagulls swarming above the water.

My Favorite part about this particular walk...watching the kids have fun. Priceless!

The rest of the evening was consumed by rain so we packed our bags and thought about getting some authentic North Carolina BBQ and New Brunswick Stew. By the time we made the phone call they were already shutting down for the evening at 7pm.! Oh Well.....maybe next time. We settled got some Subway instead and settled in for the evening long drive ahead of us tomorrow!

March 31st, 2011 - Lunch! - Spring Break 2011

For lunch we decided to go to  the Causeway Gourmet.

Jeffery had a sandwich called 'The Godfather' which basically was a Philly Cheese steak but much better. Jeff actually said it was the best sandwich he'd had in a long time. Jared had some pretty good chicken strips, Syd had a Turkey Sub and I had a 3 cheese open faced grilled sandwich with pesto mayo. Pretty good place to eat if you are in the area.

Mach 31st, 2011 - Pool Time - Spring Break 2011

To fight of the "It's raining" blues it's off to the pool we go!

March 31st, 2011 - Walkin' on the Beach - Spring Break 2011

We decided that since it wasn't raining we would go for a walk on the beach after breakfast.

Jared's sandcastle that he built the first day we were there was still intact for the most part.

The beach was covered in shells that the tide had brought in.

One of the coolest things we got to watch was the pelican's using the waves to fly. We renamed them the Blue Angels of the Ocean. It was pretty incredible that they never touched the water being so close to it and never got hit by a wave.

We also saw a few Sandpipers on the beach.

We thought maybe we would dig in the same spot they were pecking at to see if we could figure out what they were trying to eat.

This is what we found not sure what it is?? It's the jelly looking thing on top of the pile.

And then it started raining putting an end to our morning walk.

March 31st, 2011 - Sunrise?? - Spring Break 2011

So anyway, this is what we woke up to this morning - ho huM.

Not a ray of sunshine anywhere. Oh well, on with the rest of the day, last day in not so sunshiny North Carolina.

March 30th, 2011 - Beach at night - Spring Break 2011

After dinner we went to get Tangled (the Movie) and get some warmer clothes to get us through the next day (shorts and T-shirts were not going to cut it) in North Myrtle Beach. When we got back to the hotel the rain had finally stopped so we went for a walk on the beach in the dark. We looked for critters scurrying in the night, but came up empty.

Jared made the most of the evening jumping off the sand shelf and rolling around in the sand. I don't think his jacket will ever be the same.

March 30th, 2011 - Beaches Burgers - Spring Break 2011

We decided to try a little burger joint for dinner called Beaches Burgers. When we got to the door at 5:45pm we looked at the sign and saw that they closed at 6pm. We were fully prepared to turn around and find another place to eat but the owner wouldn't hear of it. The restaurant had a very cozy feel to it and the ladies were very friendly. We ended up having 3 Monster Burgers (10oz of beef) - me and Syd had it with cheese, Jeff had his with Chili and coleslaw - and Jared had a Ham and Cheese. They were all very tasty. Would go back just for the wonderful service.

March 30th, 2011 - They're Back. - Spring Break 2011

While standing outside on the balcony watching the rain, the dolphins came swimming by. They were very cool to watch.

March 30th, 2011 - Indoor Swimming - Spring Break 2011

Awfully glad that the hotel has an indoor heated pool. The kids loved it and they got some time in water even though it wasn't ocean water.

March 30th, 2011 - Walk on the Beach - Spring Break 2011

After having breakfast we figured we'd better get down to the beach before it started raining. It was cool but not as cold as yesterday. Beach was pretty much ours to play on.

We tried flying a kite. Not such a success, wind to unpredictable.

We tried throwing a Frisbee, similar kind of problem.

We decided to walk towards the pier the ocean was at low tide so there was lots of beach to walk on.

Little glimpses of the sun kept us walking and hoping the rain would stay away.

But looking back at the sky told a different story.

We kept on moving toward the pier an playing in the sand.

We stopped to take pictures under the pier. I loved the color contrasts and the geometric shapes.

The Barnacles on the posts were kind of gross to look at.



Jeff and Jared decided to skip rocks/shells on the water, it was pretty cool.

We got back to the hotel right before it started raining.

March 30th, 2011 - Dolphins! - Spring Break 2011

While enjoying the view from our balcony this morning, Jeff spotted a pod of Dolphins swimming by just past the waves breaking.

March 30th, 2011 - Sunrise at the Beach - Spring Break 2011

Got up to watch the sunrise and was treated to mostly clouds but there were still some pretty awesome views.

They got prettier as the morning wore on.

After we switched rooms because the heat in the other one didn't work, we settled in to watch Open Season 3 and play old PlayStation One Games.

To warm up we went to the heated indoor pool and hot tub, definitely a good way to warm up.

March 29th, 2011 - Beach Sunset - Spring Break 2011

The sunset was amazingly pretty and the kids were loving running around in the sand. I was loving taking photos and I was so thankful that it wasn't overcast.
